With its organic curves and bulbous shapes, the Up Chair is unmistakably feminine in its design, inspired by silhouettes of ancient fertility goddesses. Affixed to the chair is a round ottoman, a metaphorical ball and chain, denoting the pressures and prejudices women are shackled to in society. A deeply political conversational piece that promises to make a bold statement.

Description
The Serie Up, created by Gaetano Pesce in 1969, features lounge chairs, a sofa, and an ottoman composed of jersey-covered polyurethane foam in various shapes. The Up 5 Lounge Chair is the most iconic piece from the collection. The shape is a sensuously curved form to which its companion, the Up 6 Ottoman, is tethered. Pesce once described the chair as a female figure tied to a ball-shaped ottoman, symbolizing the shackles that keep women subjugated.
The Up 5 and Up 6 are composed of Bayfit (Bayer) flexible cold-shaped polyurethane foam and are available with black, red, blue, dark green, orange/beige, and the 50th-anniversary petrol green/beige striped jersey upholstery covers. The unseen underside upholstery is 100% jute.
